Home Preparation Guide
To make sure I can capture the home at its absolute best, I ask that the property be mostly photo-ready when I arrive. I totally understand that things don’t always go perfectly to plan, but if the home won’t be fully prepared, just let me know ahead of time.
My shoots are scheduled pretty tightly, and I’m not able to provide cleaning or staging during the session. A little preparation beforehand helps everything run smoothly and ensures you get the strongest possible final images.
Quick Checklist Before Your Photoshoot
Inside the Home
Put away clutter as much as possible (toys, laundry, shoes, dishes, towels, etc.)
Dust surfaces and vacuum or sweep floors
Make the beds and straighten pillows/blankets
Clear the kitchen sink and put away dishes
Clean off kitchen countertops (store small appliances like toasters, air fryers, etc.)
Remove personal items from bathroom counters
Take shampoos, soaps, and bottles out of showers and tubs
Set out fresh guest towels and hide everyday towels
Tuck away trash cans if possible
Remove papers, magnets, or notes from the refrigerator
If pets live in the home, put away bowls, toys, and pet beds
Close all toilet lids
Replace any burnt-out light bulbs
Optional: simple touches like fresh flowers or a neat table setting photograph really well
Outside the Home
Mow the lawn, rake leaves, and trim bushes if needed
Pick up any pet waste
Put away outdoor clutter (garbage bins, hoses, tools, bikes, toys, etc.)
If there’s a pool or spa, uncover and clean it before the shoot
Open patio umbrellas and arrange outdoor furniture neatly
In grilling season, uncover and tidy the grill
Optional: adding a few colorful flowers in pots can really boost curb appeal
Right Before I Arrive
Turn on all interior lights, including lamps and cabinet lights
Turn off ceiling fans
Angle blinds slightly upward for clean natural light
Move vehicles out of the driveway and away from the front of the home
Please secure any pets, especially animals that may be nervous or protective, in a safe area away from photographed rooms
